Hörnell Speedglas 9000
Speedglas 9000 is a purpose-designed welding helmet, and the result of Hörnell International's first joint development project with industrial designers. Speedglas 9000 has attracted worldwide acclaim and won several awards, including the 1997 European Design Prize.
The design of the helmet was the outcome of interviews with 500 welders, who were invited to give their opinions on the ideal helmet in terms of weight, balance and comfort. Speedglas 9000 is fitted with a unique welding visor that protects the eyes while providing good ventilation and a wide field of vision.
Hörnell was made aware of the benefits of working with designers through SVID. The success of Speedglas 9000 has helped Hörnell to increase its turnover, and quickly recover the investment in design. For Hörnell, design is a powerful competitive tool, and the company has developed a number of products in collaboration with Ergonomidesign.
