Electrolux Trilobite
Packing as much as possible into as small a format as possible at a reasonable price was both the goal and challenge for the developers of Electrolux's robot vacuum cleaner.
The Trilobite is 13 cm high and 35 cm in diameter. The rounded form and low height allows it to pass under chair legs without getting stuck. This is an exclusive product that lives up to the high demands of both appearance and function. The Trilobite is designed to be perfectly suited for the home and yet being a little bit special as well.
The development of this robotic vacuum cleaner involved experts from a variety of fields. The final product is the result of the joint efforts of designer Inese Ljunggren with research scientists, sonar system specialists, the military and software experts to name but a few.
The job of the designer is to visualise the project at hand and render it comprehensible, something which, for Electrolux, is a vital complement to the technology itself. Design is a strategic tool for the company in all its product development. The Electrolux top management has shown immense interest in the work being done.
Trilobite was given an honourable mention in the 2002 Excellent Swedish Design award.
